VDL provided the solution for the automation of the pallet transport between the production facility and the cold store at Aviko.

Aviko has been creating value from potatoes for over 50 years. Since its incorporation in 1962, it expanded to become one of Europeans biggest producers in fresh, frozen and dried potato products.

Today Aviko is also one of the four largest potato processors in the world, operating in more than 110 countries. Aviko is backed by the financial strength of the Dutch parent company Royal Cosun, with its annual turnover of € 2 billion. This allows us to invest in our continued growth.

For more than nine years Aviko investigated the automation of pallet transport at their largest production site in Steenderen. In 2019 they started with the building of a new cold store and acquired a 100 meter public road, which connected the new cold store with the existing facilities. VDL provided the solution for the automation of the pallet transport between the production facility and the cold store.

Aviko Project highlights:
⋅ Generic autonomous E-truck platform delivered in 2021
⋅ First platform to operate autonomously in mixed traffic
⋅ Automatic charging infrastructure
